Workshop - The Artist/Leisure Painter: Loose and Expressive Landscapes with David Winning

Organised by The Artist and Leisure Painter, in association with Derwent, who will provide each student with materials worth over £100(rrp): a tin of six XL Charcoal, a tin of six XL Graphite, a tin of 12 Pastels, an assorted pack of Fine Art Willow Charcoal, one Groove Cube, a Sprinkler, XL Grippers, one A3 Pastel Pad, a Traveller, one paper stump and embossing tools.

David Winning, professional artist, tutor and contributor to The Artist, will demonstrate and instruct on the techniques possible with XL Blocks, covering mark making, shape, colour, composition, light, tone, texture, proportion and perspective. Technical aspects, such as the initial application of the media, wet and dry washes, eraser techniques, reduction and additive development and detailing will also be covered. Students will be encouraged to work from memory and imagination, to be adventurous and experimental, and to produce at least one large-scale landscape composition in charcoal and graphite. The workshop will start at 10am and conclude at 5.30pm; David will provide group and individual tuition throughout the day.

There are 20 places available and the cost of the workshop is £110 (inc VAT) per person, which includes tuition from David Winning, Derwent materials worth over £100(rrp), a light lunch and refreshments. Harvest Fields in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, is a purpose-built venue with a variety of rooms for training and meetings.
