Katie Smith, working under the alias KatieBute, is an artist based in Zurich, Switzerland. Katie’s formal education began at school on the Isle of Bute, Scotland, where she began to take interest in painting and illustration. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design with Honours from Heriot-Watt University, formerly the Scottish College of Textiles, where she gained experience in woven and knitted textiles before specialising in printed textiles.
Katie’s watercolour work focuses on the natural, organic world. She works in watercolour exaggerating the colour in her art to give it a fantastical quality, yet remains true to her subject matter. This approach allows her to create vivid, imaginative pieces that still reflect the beauty and intricacies of the natural world.
Katie’s watercolour art is bright and colourful, crafted to evoke a sense of joy and a carefree approach to nature and the organic world. The aim is that the audience experiences a burst of happiness, reminiscent of the vivid, lively perceptions of childhood.
Katie is a Sketch Card Artist for California based company Upper Deck, contributing her unique talents to their iconic collector cards in collaboration with Marvel and Marvel Studios. Katie continues to exhibit art in galleries throughout the West Coast of Scotland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.”
